CM Arvind Kejriwal declared on Saturday that schools will close on Monday, government employees will operate from home, and building activity in the national capital will be prohibited to combat severe pollution levels in Delhi. For the next week, schools will be closed and government offices will be closed.
The Delhi Chief Minister launched the four-step pollution management plan as the national capital has been blanketed in a poisonous haze for over a week. On Saturday morning, the city’s pollution level remained in a severe category, with the AQI reading 473.
“For a week from Monday onwards, schools will be physically closed’ to continue virtually so that children don’t have to breathe polluted air… Construction activities not to be allowed,” Kejriwal said
The ban on construction activities in the national capital will remain between November 14-17.
He also stated that talks about a lockdown in Delhi are now underway and that required measures will be made following consultation with the central government.
The Supreme Court declared the spike in air pollution in Delhi-NCR an “emergency” situation on Saturday, ordering the Centre and the Delhi government to take immediate measures to improve air quality, including banning vehicles and imposing a lockdown in the national capital. Due to excessive levels of air pollution, Kejriwal announced that schools will be closed for one week starting Monday.
