In the wake of the discovery of a new Covid-19 version known as Omicron, the Union Health Ministry changed the criteria for international arrivals in India on Sunday. New regulations will be in effect from December 1.

Prior to the journey, the amended standards require submitting 14 days’ worth of travel details and uploading a negative RT-PCR test report to the Air Suvidha portal. All travelers will be required to submit a self-declaration form before their scheduled departure, detailing their previous 14 days of travel. Travelers must also upload a COVID-19 RT-PCR report that is negative 72 hours prior to embarking on any journey.

“The existing guidelines have been amended in light of the reporting of a new variant of SARS-CoV-2 (B.1.1.529; called Omicron) that has now been recognized as a Variant of Concern by the World Health Organization,” the Health Department said.

Passengers arriving in India from at-risk nations will now be subjected to RT-PCR testing.

If they test negative, they will be placed on seven-day home quarantine. On the eighth day, a re-test will be performed, and if the results are negative, self-monitoring will continue for the next seven days.

On arrival at the airport, a random subset of passengers (5 percent of total aircraft passengers) will be subjected to post-arrival testing.

Countries in Europe, including the United Kingdom, have been classed by the Ministry of Health.
