USA TO DILPMATICALLY BOYCOTT THE BEIJING OLYMPIC

Washington: The US announced a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics to be held in 2022. US president announced that no US diplomat will be attending the Winter Olympics due to the concerns of the human rights record of China.

No athlete is restricted from participating in the Olympics; the athletes will have full support from the government.

To this China’s officials referred the move as a ‘political farce’.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters during Monday’s briefing.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters that U.S. athletes will continue to compete and will “have our full support,” but added, “we will not be contributing to the fanfare of the games.”

“We have a fundamental commitment to promoting human rights. And we feel strongly in our position and we will continue to take actions to advance human rights in China and beyond,” Ms. Psaki added.

A Summit for Democracy will be held this week, in the white house. This will be a virtual event in which more than 100 countries will be participating.
