Myanmar: Meta Inc. owned social media platform Facebook is being sued for $150 billion over not being able to stop the hate speech that led to a genocide in the Rohingya community.

On Monday. a law firm from USA and London launched a legal campaign against Meta-owned Facebook. The campaign also has a website. The US side of the complaint is on the behalf of those who are residing in the USA and the London side is for those who live anywhere out of the states.

The website says that they are coordinating a legal action against Facebook for its role in facilitating crimes against humanity against the community.

The layers are representing the Rohingya refugees from around the world and living in refugee camps in Bangladesh.

Facebook replied to the Reuters request for comment on the matter by saying “it was too slow to prevent misinformation and hate” in Myanmar and has said it has since taken steps to crack down on platform abuses in the region, including banning the military from Facebook and Instagram after the Feb 1 coup.

Facebook also said that according to section 230 of American Law, social media platforms are not liable to the content posted by third parties.
