North Korea: The citizens of the country are forbidden from smiling and drinking for 11 days to mourning the death anniversary of their current leader’s late father Kim Jong the second. The citizens are forbidden from showing any signs or gestures of happiness.
This is called the Nation’s period of mourning. During this period, the citizens of North Korea are not allowed to smile, drink alcohol, or engage in any other kind of leisure activity. To remark the death anniversary on 17 of December, the citizens are not allowed to go grocery shopping as it is the day when Kim Jong II passed.
The Radio ‘ Free Asia’ broadcasted a source giving more information on the incident. According to the source, the people who broke the protocols of the Nation’s mourning period were taken away by authorities and were never seen again.
The citizens are not allowed to celebrate their own birthdays during this period. This restriction is imposed on deaths as well, no citizens whose kin died can cry or mourn the death, or perform any kind of ritual, everything is needed to proceed after the 11 days of the mourning period.
Another source from South Hwangee informed that the police keeps patrolling during this period to look for the people who fail to look appropriately sad. The source added that police are not allowed to sleep during the whole month of December.
The companies and owned by state and citizens groups are ordered to take care of poor citizens in this mourning period, South Korea is currently facing a food crisis.
