Chandigarh: Aam Admi Party ahead of the Assembly elections in Punjab, won 14 municipal wards out of 35 wards in Chandigarh which is a Union Territory and is run by the center. BJP won 12 wards which are the second-highest after AAP. Congress secured 8 wards and Akali Dal 1.
Ward number raised from 26 to 35 after delimitation.
This was the first election of AAP in Chandigarh and they managed to win against parties like BJP and Congress.
In terms of the vote, AAP received 40% while BJP secured 34% and 23% by Congress, and Akali Dal 3%.
BJP vote share fell by 77% in Chandigarh from the last election in 2016, and Congress raised 8%.
Traditionally, Chandigarh polls are held every five years in which the straight rivalry of BJP and Congress. Punjab elections are also approaching in weeks in which AAP will be a new competition among BJP, Congress, and Akali Dal.
