Ahead of the exit polls in the state of Uttar Pradesh the Indian National Congress on Wednesday has released the list of 89 candidates as the third list of candidates for the elections scheduled on February 10. The list of the candidates includes 37 women.
The party took a decision in their manifesto meeting to provide seats to candidates where 40% of the seats will be allotted to only women. Earlier in the third list of candidates of 41, 16 candidates listed were women.
Among these politicians put ahead by the party include Poonam Kamboj who will contest from Behat, Saharanpur, and Sandeep Rana from the Saharanpur assembly seat.
The party has also decided to go for Mamta Rajput who is the women wing chief of west Uttar Pradesh. She will contest from the Bhogaon assembly seat of Mainpuri.
Some of the other women candidates released by the party include Tara Rajput from the Marhara constituency, Neelam Raj from Jalesar, and Divya Sharma from the Amanpour constituency of Uttar Pradesh.
Of the 89 candidates, the party listed 17 seats in west Uttar Pradesh which will be part of the second phase of the elections in the state, and the declaration of the candidates by the parties can be done till January 28th.
The Indian National Congress after not being in power for 30 years hopes to make a comeback in Uttar Pradesh through their planning of women empowerment and welfare. The campaign for the elections is headed by Priyanka Gandhi who during the campaign launched the slogan “Ladki hoon, Lad Sakti hoon.”
Priyanka Gandhi has presented a women centralized manifesto where she promises to provide special provisions in government jobs, transportation on state-run buses.
