INDIA ABSTAINS FROM VOTING ON ANTI-RUSSIAN RESOLUTIONS

The UN General Assembly conducts voting for the immediate withdrawal of Military Forces among 193 members of the Assembly. In the total of 193 members states, 141 members voted for the resolution of the Russian-Ukraine War.

35 members abstained, and 5 voted against the resolution. The supporters of Moscow are Eritrea, Syria, North Korea, and Belarus. The resolution demands the immediate, complete, and unconditional withdrawal of all the military forces of Russia over Ukraine. The result came out with 141 votes in favor of the resolution, with over two-thirds majority. 

India, along with the other 34 members, abstains from the voting session. While explaining India’s vote, Indian Ambassador TS Tirumurti demands the safe return of all Indian nationals and Indian students who are still stranded in the conflict-hit area, as it is  India’s foremost priority.
