BCCI IS TO LAUNCH A SIX TEAM WOMEN’S IPL BY 2023

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) intends to hold a six-team women’s IPL next year. This year’s Women’s T20 Challenger will feature three teams. It will most likely take place in Pune at the end of May in between Men’s IPL playoffs. In 2018, the IPL hosted the Women’s T20 Challenger for the first time. There have been three seasons since then.

All ten existing IPL teams will be given first priority to purchase the Women’s s IPL teams and if they refuse, auctions for the new Women’s IPL team will take place. At least four current IPL owners have expressed interest in purchasing the Women’s IPL franchises, according to the reports.

An official statement by BCCI

“It has to be passed by AGM,” BCCI president Sourav Ganguly remarked following the meeting with the IPL Governing Council. “We have to it up and running by next year.”

‘The process to launch a Women’s IPL has begun,’ set IPL Governing Council Chairman Brijesh Patil. A five- or six-team league is possible. This year, however, the event will take place during the Men’s playoffs. TheWomen’ss T20 Challenger will feature three teams. “It’s likely that all of the matches will be staged in Pune.”

BCCI faced criticism worldwide

The BCCI has been under a lot of fire, with requests for a full-fledged women’s IPL circulating for quite some time. Earlier, the West Indies cricket board has also announced the launch of a three-team Women’s T20 competition which will begin this year whereas the Pakistan cricket board(PCB) is also planning to launch its own women’s cricket league.

According to sources, the BCCI has felt a responsibility to create a Women’s league in the country as one of the game’s most important stakeholders globally. Several cricket commentators and former women’s cricket players have stated their support for the league. Urging, the BCCI to launch it as soon as possible because it will benefit women’s cricket in the country and bring out some remarkable talent.

Women’s Cricket Team currently playing World Cup

Notably, the Indian Women’s cricket team is competing in the Women’s World Cup and will face South Africa women on March 27 in a must-win game to advance to the semi-finals. Currently, they are in the Fifth position behind England with the same points. West Indies got 7 points are now on third, but a win for India directly sets the place in Semi-final.

Men’s IPL starting from 26 March The IPL 2022 will begin on Saturday at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) taking on defending champions Chennai super kings (CSK).
