Out of form batters, Cheteshwar Pujara and former test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane were downgraded By BCCI central contracts that were ratified by the board’s apex council on Wednesday. Miserable form cost Pujara, Rahane, and Ishant Sharma unexpected drop who had been dropped from Group A to B. They also haven’t got selected for the upcoming home Test series against Sri Lanka starting from March 4.
This time 27 players have been named in BCCI central contracts with Virat Kohli Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah placed in the A+ category. These three are all format players, as they will get an annual salary of 7cr.
Earlier category A had ten players, but now it has shrunk to just five players with Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Mohammad Sami Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja cemented their slots explosively. All these five players will get an annual salary of 5cr.
Hard-hitting all-rounder Hardik Pandya got the biggest reduction that is from category A to C due to his poor form as well as injury issues in the past few months. Pandya has to work on his fitness and form for making comeback in the Indian team, as fans definitely want him to be back in the Indian jersey.
Provisory Weeketkeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha lately dropped from the forthcoming test series against Sri Lanka caused lots of controversy by his remarks on coach Rahul Dravid and on BCCI selection policies that had been shifted from Group B to C. Even star opener, Shikhar Dhawan can’t make it in group A as he’s presently playing only ODI’s, that forced him to shift in group C.

‘A+’ contract – Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah
‘A’ contract – Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Mohammed Shami.
‘B’ contract – Mohammed Siraj, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Shreyas Iyer, Isha Sharma.
‘C’ contract – Suryakumar Yadav, Shikhar Dhawan, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Hardik Pandya, Washington Sundar, Deepak Chahar, Shubman Gill, Hanuma Vihari, Yuzvendra Chahal, Wriddhiman Saha, Mayank Agarwal.
Players like Kuldeep Yadav and Navdeep Saini were unable to take their place in any of the categories that directly transferred them message to perform well in the forthcoming IPL season to make a comeback in the Indian team.
The big takeaways from this BCCI contracts list were the inclusion of Suryakumar Yadav for the first time as he’s becoming an all-format player, after playing some crucial knocks in previous games. Shreyas Iyer was also promoted to category B, as he’s been the consistent performer in the few games making three consecutive half-centuries in the recently concluded t20 series against Sri Lanka.
