Tripura: BJP has won 217 of the 222 seats in Tripura’s municipal elections, which were held on November 25 amid a bitter feud with the Trinamool Congress. The CPM has three seats, while the Trinamool Congress and TIPRA Motha each have one.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the BJP state unit and also thanked the people of Tripura in his tweet.
After coming to power in 2018 this is the first civic election contested by BJP. TMC and CPM were the main rivals as they had ruled the parties earlier.
The Trinamool, however, said this was “just the beginning”. “It is exceptional for a party beginning with negligible presence to successfully contest municipal elections and emerge as the PRINCIPAL OPPOSITION in the state with more than 20% vote share,” tweeted Trinamool’s Abhishek Banerjee.
“This is despite the fact that we commenced our activities barely 3 months ago and @BJP4Tripura left no stone unturned to BUTCHER DEMOCRACY in Tripura,” another tweet from him read.
