COLLEGE IN KARNATAKA DENIES ENTRY FOR GIRLS IN HIJABS

KARNATAKA: A protest out broke in government colleges of Karnataka on Wednesday, 100 boys were found wearing saffron scarfs to oppose the decision of the government to deny Muslim girls to enter into colleges with hijab.

 The issue started a month before when students wearing hijab were denied entry into the colleges in Karanataka’s  Udupi after which more colleges in the state denied Muslim girls entering the college premises wearing hijab.

What happened at Udupi girls college?

The management on January 1, 2022, stopped six girls to enter because it is against the stated norms of the college to wear a hijab on the college premises.

After which a student named Rashmi Farooq, filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court which stated that it is the fundamental right guaranteed under Article 14 and 25 of the Constitution as it is a major practice in Islam religion.

As per the report published by India Today, a meeting to place between students, parents, government officials, and college management on January 19, however, no solution was found and the problem arose when the students were again stopped to enter on February 1.

The issue rises in more colleges.

In a release by the Times of India, the management of the Sir MV Government College asked the girls to remove their hijabs in the waiting room and take classes without them.

After two more colleges took up the anti-hijab law. The colleges decided to shut the doors for the girls wearing the hijab.

What is the Solution?

A committee has been set up by the government to decide the fate of the Muslim students that should be allowed to enter colleges in hijab or not. The government has further stated that until the report of the committee is out the students have to attend classes without wearing the hijab
