COUNTDOWN TO IPL 2022 BEGINS; AUCTIONS STARTS ON FEBRUARY 12

590 players will go under the hammer in Bengaluru this 12th&13th of February. 370 Indian players and 220 foreign players will have their fates decided in the two-day event. 

The 15th edition of IPL will feature 10 teams. Two new teams Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants have been added. Former 8 teams were allowed to retain a maximum of 4 players and the new teams were allowed to pick 3 players of their choice from the available pool.

KL Rahul will lead the luck now side while all-rounder Hardik Pandya will be the Skipper of Gujarat Titans.

The list of Retained players is as follows:

  1. Mumbai Indians- Rohit Sharma, Keiron Pollard, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav
  2. Royal Challengers Bangalore- Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Mohammed Siraj 
  3. Chennai Super kings- Ravindra Jadeja, , MS Dhoni, Moeen Ali and Ruturaj Gaikwad
  4. Delhi Capitals- Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel and Anrich Nortje
  5. Kolkata Knight Riders- Andre Russel, Venkatesh Iyer, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy
  6. Sunrisers Hyderabad- Kane Williamson, Umran Malik and Abdul Samad
  7. Rajasthan Royals- Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler and Yashaswi Jaiswal
  8. Punjab Kings- Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep Singh

The new teams picked the following players-

  1. Gujarat Titans- Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan and Shubhman Gill
  2. Lucknow Super Giants- KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi

The talking point was the release of some notable big players like Faf du Plessis, Kyle Jamieson, Ben Stokes, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Jofra Archer, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravichandran Ashwin, and the two shocking releases of Suresh Raina and David Warner(4th and 5th highest runscorers of the competition).

The faith that was shown in youngsters by the franchise indicates the ability of the players and the quest in the teams to look towards the future. With the Indian team winning the under-19 world cup we have gotten a glimpse of some future stars.

While Mumbai Indians have stuck to its core base, CSK is most likely to go for experienced players. With the coming of new teams, the competition in the auctions is more open-ended. All the teams are going to have a new look and it won’t be surprising to see an uncapped player selling for a hefty sum.
