E-PASSPORTS FOR SMOOTHER AND EASIER TRAVEL – JAISHANKAR

Delhi: The External affairs minister S. Jaishankar released a statement on Friday concerning the idea of E-passport which was introduced in the union budget presented by the central government on February 1.

Before releasing his statement Jaishankar said in the Lok Sabha that E-passports will be secured by the digital signature of the issuing country which will help in providing the data to the country where people are traveling to.

He further said that the current Passport Seva project includes immediate safeguarding of data privacy. Passport data is used for a specific purpose for which it is obtained.

Advanced ability to maintain the data.

This passport will be a combination of paper and electric passport consisting of a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chip.

The critical information of the passport holder will be added on paper as well as in the chip attached to the passport. The documentation and the chip are authorized by International Civil Aviation Organization.

AEM Jaishankar further said, “The inclusion of the E-passports will be easy for passengers to facilitate making their traveling and their encounter with immigration department much easier and smoother.”

Since ICAO has recommended the introduction of the technology to the member countries. The passports will be in accordance with the best global practices.

Dr. Jaishankar said that it is a favorable time to bring the new technology in the country as other nations are adopting the practices.

No Discrimination on the E-passports

According to the report given to PTI, Dr. Jaishankar said while answering the question of DMK leader Dayanindi Maran where he asked whether this technology will be issued only in Gujarat, Mumbai, Delhi said that the government has never discriminated among its citizens of different states for passports.

External Affairs Minister asked Dayanandi to raise valid arguments and don’t put allegations that are baseless for just the sake of putting the government down.
