British actress Emma Watson took Instagram to praise Indian rural women from the ‘Chipko Movement’ off 1970.
The actress posted a black and white picture of Women protecting a tree.
Giving a shoutout she writes “Thank you for protecting our forests and trees! The women pictured here were part of the Chipko movement, a non-violent social and ecological moment by rural villagers, particularly women, in India during the 1970s. Here they are protecting a tree from government logging. The Hindi word Chipko means to ‘hug’ or ‘cling to’, reflected in the demonstrator’s primary tactic of embracing trees to protect them from loggers.”
Back in 2019, Emma Watson helped to launch a free helpline number for legal advice to women who face sexual harassment at work.
The actress is famously known for her Feminist values and activism.
