New Delhi: In today’s cabinet meeting, which was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union Cabinet adopted draught legislation to repeal the farm rules.

In a press conference, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that the Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had finalized the legalities to abolish the three Farm Laws. Thakur went on to say that the government’s priority during the upcoming session of Parliament will be to repeal these three laws.

Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, Farmers’ (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020 are the three agri-laws that will be repealed under the repeal bill.

On the occasion of Gurpurab, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the repeal of three problematic farm laws. PM Modi stated that the government made the choice in the national interest.

The Farm Laws Repeal Bill, 2021, has been added to the Centre’s agenda for the Parliament’s winter session, which begins on November 29. Meanwhile, agricultural minister Prahlad Joshi informed Union minister Prahlad Joshi that the agriculture ministry is discussing the exact dates for the three bills to be discussed in the upcoming Parliament session.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella organization of roughly 20 farmers’ organizations, will march to Parliament on November 29 to commemorate a year of anti-farm law protests. The SKM commended Prime Minister Modi for repealing the three farm regulations in an open letter, but pointed out that “after 11 rounds of talks, you chose the path of unilateral declaration rather than a bilateral solution.”

The decision to repeal the rules comes as Uttar Pradesh and Punjab prepare for key state elections.
