Canberra: On Thursday, a fire damaged the exterior gate of Australia’s old parliament house. The cause is not confirmed yet but the primary suspects are a small group of protestors, who were protesting in front of the building.

Video clips of fire are being surfaced on social media platforms showing thick fumes of smoke and fire plumages. The video clip shows police dragging away the protestors.

The Australian Capital Territory services arrived on the site before noon when the building was lit up. The building was evacuated and the fire was extinguished.

Reports tell that the building was lit up on December 21 by the protestors. There has been continuous protest for the past 5 days.

Deputy Prime Minister called the incident “an absolute disgrace”. “This is the parliament that for so long underpinned the freedoms we have as democracy and made the decisions that formed us as nations, fighting for an increase of rights and corrections to our colonial past.’ he added.
