Islamabad: On Tuesday, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imraan Kha expressed his regrets on joining America’s 20-year long ‘war on terror in Afghanistan by calling it a ‘self-inflicted wound’. Imran Khan also said that the decision was made for the money and not for the public interest. In the same ceremony, Imran Khan made remarks on the USA for causing the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister has always been critical of Pakistan’s decision of joining the ‘war on terror. The decision was made by Pakistan’s Military ruler Gen Parvez Musharraf in 2001. Imran Khan said that back then he was close to the decision-makers.

Addressing the officers of Foreign affairs, Imran Khan said that ‘And I am so well aware that what consideration was there were behind the decision, ‘unfortunately the people of Pakistan were not in the consideration’. ‘The consideration instead was same as 1980, when we participated in the Afghan Jihad, he said referring to the Soviet-Afghan war which was later dubbed as a holy war.

‘A man-made crisis is being created despite knowing that it can be averted (in Afghanistan) accounts ( in the USA) are unfrozen and liquidity is put into their banking system’ reported Dawn Newspaper quoting Imran Khan.

Imran Khan stated that irrespective of liking and disliking the Taliban in Afghanistan, the world should focus on the difficulties faced by 40 million people in Afghanistan.

He also congratulated and appreciated the Foreign Office for holding the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Conference on such short notice.
