INDIAN DOCUMENTRY FILM ‘WRITING WITH FIRE’ SHORTLISTED FOR OSCAR

India’s official entry in Oscar, PS Vinothraj’s Tamil debut drama Khoozangal (pebbles) bow outs from Oscar race. However another file ‘ Writing with fire’, a direction by Delhi-based filmmaker Rintu Thomas and Sushmita Ghos directed made it to the list of best 15 films.

The film will advance to the next stage or not, that is to be waited for. The other films for the same category include Ascension, Procession, Summer of soul, The Velvet Underground, among the other movies from different countries.

‘Writing of Fire’ has been in the eyes of viewers since January when it won Special Jury and Audience awards at the Sundance Film Festival. Since then the film has picked up 28 international awards till now.

The Hollywood reviewers are calling it ‘insightful and inspirational’. Washington Post called it ‘the most inspiring journalism movie-may ever’.

The film is about India’s only rural and one of its kind newspaper run by a Dalit woman since 2002, with the help of a Delhi-based NGO Nirantar from Chitrakoot to the Bundelkhand region.
