It was a happy outing for Skipper Rohit Sharma as India Thrashed West Indies by 96 runs to win the third and last ODI. Shreyas Iyer was the highest Scorer with his match-winning 80 runs.
It was a similar start for India batting first as it lost 3 wickets for less than 50 runs. Shreyas Iyer who came in for injured KL Rahul shone with the bat. He was joined by wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant who scored his 5th career half-century.
Wickets started tumbling on one end while Iyer held the anchor. Some Late fireworks from Deepak Chahar for his 38 ensured India crossed the 260 mark. Both of them proved their worth a night before the IPL player auctions.
Bowling second, all the bowlers except Washington Sundar took wickets. Kuldeep Yadav who replaced Yuzvendra Chahal had a decent night as he took 2 wickets. Prasidh Krishna had another great spell with the ball as he took 3 wickets.
Iyer was adjudged Man of the match while Krishna bagged the Man of the Series award. KL Rahul and spinner Axar Patel would not be playing the T20 series as they have been reported to be injured.
Ruturaj Gaikwad and Deepak Hooda have been asked to stay with the team and travel to Kolkata for T20s starting 16th February.
One major talking point would be the form of former skipper Virat Kohli who got a duck on the last match of the series. He was seen struggling on outside off deliveries which have been getting him out constantly since the New Zealand tour of 2019-20.
India went with its second-string bowlers with Siraj leading the Pace attack. Yadav is still struggling to make a comeback and Krishna struggling to cement his place in the team.
With the level of competition between the players, these are good signs for the future of the Indian team.
