Kripal Parmar, a former member of the Rajya Sabha, resigned as vice-president of the Himachal Pradesh BJP on Tuesday, handing the ruling party yet another humiliation after its loss in the by-polls on October 30.
The announcement comes on the day of the BJP’s state executive meeting, during which the party is scheduled to assess its performance in the by-elections.
Parmar said in his three-line resignation letter that no one in the party listened to his counsel and that it was being “managed like a dictatorship.” What was the sense of remaining vice-president if no one listened to him, said Parmar in his letter?
Suresh Kashyap, the state BJP president, was the recipient of the letter.
Parmar wrote in a Facebook post: “I, Kripal Parmar, vice-president, Himachal BJP, am sending my resignation from the post… kindly accept it… I will explain the reason in a separate letter.”
In an interview with ThePrint, he said that he had been harassed and humiliated by the BJP and that factions within the party had attempted to undermine his work.
When contacted for a response, state BJP president Kashyap stated that he learned about the resignation through social media. “When I receive his resignation, I will consider and address his issues,” he added.
