MAHARASHTRA DOES NOT REQUIRE COMPLETE LOCKDOWN: STATE HEALTH MINISTER

Maharashtra State Health Minister Rajesh Tope stated there is no need for complete lockdown in the state. Mr.Rajesh Tope said, “we need to impose covid curbs wherever there is a high crowd”.


While speaking to reporters after meeting Maharashtra’s covid task force and health officials, the planning and Finance Department of the Maharashtra Health Minister said, “Maharashtra has reported 16,000 cases on Tuesday and cases could rise up to 25,000 on Wednesday”.


Tope said, “there is no need for a 100% lockdown in the state, just that we need to take care of ourselves and non-essentials need to be stopped”. The recommendation of the Task Force and health officials will be discussed with Chief minister Uddhav Thackrey.


According to Maharashtra health department statistics, there were 18,466 new cases on 4th January 2022, and 10,860 are only from Mumbai of which 89% are asymptomatic. As of current there are 66,308 active cases in the state and 4,558 patients have recovered from infection in the last 24 hours, state witnessed 20 covid 19 deaths


The Health Minister has requested the citizens of the state to take both doses of Covid 19 vaccine to those who have not taken it yet.
