New Zealand is to ban smoking for children aged above 14 years for a lifetime. This decision is being discussed as any other method will take a long time.
New Zealand is among the world’s 17 countries that only allow plain packaging on cigarettes, selling tobacco to minors is an offense as well. However, the government said that these measures are not enough to meet the goal of a national smoking population of less than 5% by the year 2025.
According to the reports, New Zea is baning from selling cigarettes to anyone aged 14 and below from 2027. This ban will be implemented for the rest of the lives of New Zealand citizens.
The decision is taken place because the habit of smoking is developed in the teenage years itself.
Currently, 11% of the New Zealand population above 15 that smokes, the rate rises to 29% among Maori Indigenous adults.
However, New Zealand Tobacco experts are concerned about increasing vaping among the citizens.
