28 December (Sunday): PM Narendra Modi on his Sunday radio broadcast said that the turning point in India’s growth story is job creators rather than job seekers.

While addressing the nation through his ‘Maan ki Baat’, Modi reminded the nation that the pandemic is not over yet and encouraged them to maintain safety protocols.

“Never forget that coronavirus is not gone yet. It is the responsibility of us all to continue to take necessary precautions,” he said, a day after chairing a review of the situation, public health preparedness, and the status of vaccinations.

During his speech, the Prime Minister emphasized that before 2015, the country had just nine or ten unicorns or start-ups with a valuation of more than a billion dollars.

“You will be very happy to know that now India is flying high even in the world of unicorns.

According to a report, a big change has come this year. In just 10 months, a unicorn is being raised in India every 10 days. This is also a big thing because our youth have achieved this success in the midst of the pandemic. Today there are more than 70 unicorns in India,” he said.

Mr. Modi chatted with a young man called Mayur Patil who had created air filter technology to cut pollution while boosting the car economy, adding that Indian youth start-ups were solving global problems. They discovered that after installing it in 10 buses of the regional transportation business in 2017-18, fuel economy increased by 10% and emissions decreased by 40%. The patent was approved this year, and Mayur and three of his pals earned a 90-lakh grant from the NITI Aayog’s Atal New India Challenge, allowing them to construct a facility to mass-produce the air filters.

The PM offered Mr. Patil’s experience as an example of a societal mindset change in favor of entrepreneurs. “This is the turning point of India’s growth story, where people are now not only dreaming of becoming job seekers but also becoming job creators. This will further strengthen India’s stature on the global stage.”

The Prime Minister also praised community initiatives to protect the environment, ranging from river rejuvenation in Uttar Pradesh’s Jalaun to palmyra planting in Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi to prevent soil erosion and coastal island submersion during storms. “Nature poses a threat to us only when we disturb her balance or destroy her sanctity,” said Mr. Modi.

Mr. Modi also met with Ayushmaan Bharat recipients who had got free medical treatment under the scheme.

The month of December will honor the golden jubilee of the 1971 conflict, as well as the yearly celebrations of Navy Day and Armed Forces Flag Day, according to the Prime Minister. Noting that the nation will observe Babasaheb Ambedkar’s death anniversary on December 6, the PM said the Constitution’s essential spirit expected all citizens to carry out their responsibilities, and urged a vow to do so as an appropriate homage to the Constitution’s drafter.
