Uttar Pradesh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Noida International Airport (NIA) at Jewar today at 1 PM, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. The first phase of the airport is being built at a cost of over ten billion rupees.
The airport covers an area of more than 1300 hectares. The completed first phase of the airport will be able to service around 1.2 million people per year, and construction is expected to be completed by 2024.
The prime minister said on Twitter that the project will enhance business, connectivity, and tourism.
“Tomorrow, 25th November is a major day for India’s and Uttar Pradesh’s strides in infra creation. At 1 PM, the foundation stone of the Noida International Airport will be laid. This project will significantly boost commerce, connectivity, and tourism,” the PM had tweeted on Wednesday
Uttar Pradesh will become India’s only state with five international airports, according to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The airport’s growth is in keeping with the prime minister’s aim of increasing connectivity and developing a future-ready aviation sector, according to the statement.
“A special focus of this grand vision has been on the state of Uttar Pradesh that is witnessing the development of multiple new international airports including the recently inaugurated Kushinagar airport and the under-construction international airport at Ayodhya,” it said.
This will be the second international airport in the Delhi NCR area. It will aid in the decongestion of the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI).
The airport is strategically positioned, according to the PMO, and will serve residents of cities such as Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Agra, Faridabad, and the surrounding territories.
Northern India’s logistics gateway will be the airport. The airport would be a game-changer for Uttar Pradesh due to its size and capacity. According to a press release, it will “unleash the potential of Uttar Pradesh to the globe” and “assist in establishing the state on the global logistics map.”
It went on to say that for the first time in India, an airport has been designed with an integrated multi-modal cargo hub, with the goal of lowering total logistics costs and time.
“The dedicated cargo terminal will have a capacity of 20 lakh metric tonne, which will be expanded to 80 lakh metric tonnes. Through facilitating the seamless movement of industrial products, the airport will play a crucial role in helping the region attract huge investments, boost rapid industrial growth, and enable the reach of local products to national and international markets. This will bring new opportunities for numerous enterprises, and also create tremendous employment opportunities,” the statement added.
According to Civil Aviation Secretary Rajiv Bansal, the Noida International Airport will be built in four parts, with the first phase expected to be completed in 36 months.
He also stated that the state of Uttar Pradesh is spending Rs. 4,326 crore on land acquisition, rehabilitation, and resettlement. According to Mr. Bansal, the Prime Minister is directly overseeing the project.
The airport will build a Ground Transportation Centre, according to the PMO, which will include a multimodal transit hub with metro and high-speed rail stations, taxi, bus, and private parking.
