On Monday, former Union minister and Congress leader Salman Khurshid’s home in Nainital, Uttarakhand, was vandalized.

The senior Congressman, who has been embroiled in a controversy over his remarks on Hindutva in his new book ‘Sunrise Over Ayodhya: Nationhood in Our Times,’ said the attack was on the Hindu religion rather than on him.
Khurshid shared the graffiti photos and videos on social media with a comment that echoed what he had intended to express in his book about those who engage in violence: “I hoped to welcome my pals who had placed this calling card via these doors. Is it still possible that this isn’t Hinduism?”

“So such is the debate now. Shame is too ineffective a word. Besides, I still hope that we can reason together one day and agree to disagree if not more,” Khurshid wrote in another post.

Reacting to the incident, Khurshid told news agency ANI:

“I’ve said (in my book) that people who do such things don’t belong to the Hindu religion. Hindu religion is a beautiful religion that has given a fantastic culture to this country and I’m proud of it. This attack is not on me but on Hindu religion.”

two people can be seen dousing out fire at the congress leader’s home. the video also showed flames of fire and charred doors and shattered windows.

Uttarakhand police have taken 21 into custody for vandalism.
