New Delhi: Supreme Court refused to postpone the Municipal elections to be held on 25th November, with the suggestion of stricter security deployment to the state to avoid violence on the day of the poll. The judgment came on Tuesday, on the last day of the campaigns.

Supreme Court stated that “While we are not inclined to postpone the elections, we are equally of the view that it is the duty of the DGP, IGP and Home Secretary to assuage any misgivings about the law enforcement machinery in supporting the electoral process”, reported India today.

The plea to postpone the polls was filed by TMC (Trinamool Congress ) against the violence happening in Tripura before the local elections.

On Sunday, allegedly the party workers of TMC were beaten up with sticks by ruling party BJP workers. The incident is alleged to have been taken place at the police station of Agartala.

Supreme Court bench of Justice Bopanna and Justice Chandarchud ordered the state to give a brief to the court on how to ensure the upcoming elections are free and fair and without any violence.

SC also demanded an affidavit for compliance on the lodged FIR, the arrests made, and the action taken during the violence.
