With a 1-0 win over Chelsea this weekend, the writing is on the wall. With a
humongous 11 point lead over the second-place Liverpool side it is a question of
not if, but when the Pep Guardiola managed side will lift the premier league
trophy.
The sailing has been smooth in spite of the fact that the team lacks a proper
striker. They have been piling on goals and defeating all the other teams with
relative ease. Their star-studded midfield with Kevin de Bruyne is a sight to
behold.
Even though Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side has a game to spare but it is highly
unlikely that they would be able to fill the chasm. Both Liverpool and Chelsea
have seen a slump in form and with both sides settling for a draw last time they
met, this has made the task for Man City easier.
Goalkeeper Mendy has been in good form, well supported by the defense.
Tottenham did not let Harry Kane join the sky blues or the picture would have
been even better. Riyad Maharez, Gabriel Jesus, and Raheem Sterling have done
an outstanding job this season by netting at crucial moments.
Ever since the club was taken over by the Abu Dhabi led City Football group in
2008 the club has seen its fortunes turn around when they lifted the premier
league title for the first time in 5 decades. The arrival of Pep Guardiola was the
icing on the cake. The side which was relegated to the third tier in 1998 is now the
side to beat in the top tier.
At this point in time, there is absolutely nothing that can go wrong for the city.
While all the other clubs were struggling due to Covid-19 where the virus caused a
loss of form for Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester united. Manchester was
almost unaffected as its bench strength fired on all cylinders.
It is yet to be seen how Manchester City will play in the UEFA champion’s league
playoffs but the way they played and won against PSG on the league stage, they
are expected to be the hot favorites to lift the coveted trophy this year.
