Match no. 1 Inter Milan vs Liverpool
It was a great outing for Liverpool as they defeated Inter Milan at San Siro on Wednesday. Roberto Firmino and Mohammad Salah scored one goal each to secure a comfortable 2-0 victory. Inter Milan’s attack was not up to the mark and had no shot on target. Only one shot hit the post.
Virgil van Dijk was in sublime form and Milan’s forwards found it difficult to get through him. With the victory on an away game without conceding a goal, Liverpool is the hot favourite to proceed when the two sides face each other at Anfield Stadium on March 8.
Liverpool is one of the most competitive teams in the last 3-4 years. They are one of the favourites to win the Champion’s league. The other potential favourites are Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Chelsea.
Match no.2 Bayern Munich vs RB Salzburg
Austrian club RB Salzburg playing its first Champion’s league knock-out game proved its metal. They held Bayern Munich for a 1-1 draw at the Red Bull Arena. Not many were expecting this result given the inexperience of RB Salzburg.
Salzburg opened the scoring with Chukwubike Adamu scoring in the 21st minute. They held on the lead for much of the game but lost it in the 90th minute when Kingsley Comen scored a goal. This goal meant that Munich avoided a shock defeat. This comes right after a 4-2 loss at the hands of low placed German club Bochum in Bundesliga.
The season which has been great for Munich has seen some downs. They suffered a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Borussia Monchengladbach. It remains to be seen whether Salzburg will be able to put up a fantastic performance on 8th March when it travels to Munich for the second leg. Till then, the ghost of losing too much weaker teams continues to haunt Bayern.
