UCL FINAL SHIFTED FROM ST. PETERSBURG TO PARIS

Europa League preliminary round second leg has commenced and there were some dramatic results. There were ripples of Russian invasion in Ukraine on the football fields across Europe.

Barcelona playing in the Diego Maradona Stadium of Europe held the banner of “STOP WAR”. Ukrainian Player Ruslan Malinovskyi wore a T-shirt saying “No war in Ukraine” beneath his jersey. He flashed his shirt after scoring the second goal for Atlanta against Olympiacos.

German Club Schalke has removed the name of its prime sponsor from its jersey as it is a Russian Company.

As an aftermath of the Russian Offence, UEFA has decided to shift this year’s Champions League Final from Russia to Paris. 

Zenit vs Real Betis (0-0) (Aggregate 2-3)

It was not a good day for Russia in Football as their club Zenit could not qualify for the Round of 16 in the Europa League. The team was trailing 2-3 from the first leg. The Spaniards did not shy from showing their resentment for the invasion as they showed the Ukrainian flag to the Russian Players.

In a controversial ending to a highly contested game. Zenit put the ball in the net in the last minutes of the match. It was a header that came from a penalty corner. A player from Real Betis fell down while the ball was in play. Match Referee had a look on the VAR Television screen and disallowed the goal.

Zenit was denied a last-minute equalizer and thus they have been ruled out of the competition.

Barcelona vs Napoli (4-2) (Aggregate 5-3)

Barcelona showed reminiscence of its former glory as it defeated Napoli 4-2 in an away game. Left Back Jordi Alba opened the scoring for Barca in the 8th minute. The game was played at a fast rate as 4 goals were scored in the first half. 

Pierre Aubameyang who has been among goals since his arrival in Barcelona scored the 4th goal for Barcelona in the 59th minute. Midfielder Gavi was handed a yellow card for tucking shirt for Napoli winger Politano.
