Shashank Singh Parihar
England’s explosive batsman Jason Roy has given cricket fans a huge shock. He pulled out from the 15th edition of Indian Premium League (IPL) citing extended stay in tournaments bio bubble.
The 2019 World Cup winner was in the form of his life as he smashed 303 runs with an average of 5050 in 6 matches for Quetta Gladiators at the recently concluded PCL 2022. They bought Jason Roy off INR 2cr which was also his base price during the mega auction held in Bengaluru last month.
“Hi everyone, especially the Gujarat Titans fans, and squad. It’s with a heavy heart I have decided to pull out of this year’s tournament. I want to thank the management and captain Hardik for putting your faith in me and picking me in the auction. However, with everything going on in the world over the last 3 years it’s added up and taken its toll on me. I feel it’s only right I spend some quality time with my family. As well as spending time working on myself and my game over the next couple of months leading into a very busy year. I will be following each game of the Titans and backing them to lift the trophy in their first year of the tournament. Thank you, everyone, for the continued support and I hope you can all respect and appreciate my decision”. Roy took to his social media handles to confirm that he will not be part of IPL 2022 due to bio-bubble fatigue.
Now, when just a few weeks are left at the start of this IPL season Titans find themselves in trouble as they are confused about whom to pick Roy’s replacement because they do have some great options available. So, Here’s a look at three world-class players that Gujarat Titans(GT) can pick as Roy’s replacement.
Ben MacDermott
Australian opener and player of the tournament of this BBL season, MacDermott can be the perfect fit for Gujarat Titans. He scored 577 runs for Hurricanes where he also scored two back-to-back centuries. The 27-year-old is an explosive hard-hitting batsman who can clear the ropes easily.
Ben was also part of Australia 11 in the recently ended T20 series against Sri Lanka. Titan has him as a good option. He will definitely provide Titans with a good start as an opener alongside Shubhman Gill.
Sakib al Hasan
Sakib is one of the best all-rounders in the modern era. However, no franchises have shown faith in him as he went unsold in the recently concluded mega auction, not even at his brace price of INR 2cr. Hasan had poor form in ICC t20 World Cup 2021 and also had a hamstring injury which also forced him to miss a few cricketing series.
He is currently the second-ranked T20 all-rounder in ICC rankings. Shakib is a destructive batsman and left-arm spinner who can play a crucial role for Gujarat’s Titans this upcoming IPL season.
Suresh Raina
Mr. IPL, Raina went unsold in recently concluded IPL 2022 mega auction has no franchise I wanted trainer even at his best price of INR 2 CR. The main reason behind being unsold was his poor form in the last IPL season where he just made 160 runs in 12 matches at a paltry average of 17.77.
But he still remains the 4th highest run-getter in IPL history with 5528 runs from 205 matches including in century and 39 half-centuries. Raina could be seen in action for Gujarat Titans this season as a replacement for Jason Roy.
Now it totally depends on Gujarat Titans management and skipper Hardik Pandya to whom they are targeting for. Gujarat Titans squad is already the best one among other teams as they have some excellent players like Rashid Khan, Shubman Gill, Dominic Drake, David Miller, and the list goes on. Let’s see which player Gujarat Titan adding to their squad in place of Jason Roy.
